Course Overview:
This self-study program is designed for healthcare professionals interested in enhancing their personal and professional development by participating in self-paced CE programs based on current research and practice. Optimal humidification, what is it? As clinicians, many consider this to be providing a specific set temperature at the patient Y-piece. Some may believe that it is using a particular heat moisture exchanger. This guide will provide clinicians with a fundamental overview of humidification during invasive and noninvasive ventilation, an understanding of the devices available and lastly, how as patient caregivers, we can assess patients and determine their humidification needs.

  • Describe the differences between active and passive humidification.
  • Identify various characteristics of a heat moisture exchanger (HME).
  • Understand humidification during noninvasive ventilation (NIV).
