Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN)

Standardized Data, Worldwide Access

What GDSN Is

The Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) is a series of interconnected data networks that enable companies from across the globe to share product and supply chain-related data through standardized messaging and communication exchanges.5 The GDSN is owned and run by GS1. ICU Medical uses GDSN to offer faster, more accurate electronic product information to purchasing organizations and regulatory groups.

How GDSN Works

After an organization is set up as a recipient, data updates flow quickly and easily back and forth between Smiths Medial and the GDSN regularly.

Here are some more details about the process:

1. ICU Medical enters product attribute data into our Product LifeCycle Management (PLM) and Product Information Management (PIM) systems. ICU Medical submits this information to our data pool provider, 1WorldSync.

2. ICU Medical’s data pool provider, stores the product data and checks key data elements with the GS1 Global Registry.

3. Other organizations use their own data pool providers to request information from ICU Medical.

4. After ICU Medical approves a request, product data flows from ICU Medical through the GDSN (data pool) to the recipients.
