  • Chris Holmes

    Chris Holmes

    President & CEO

    Chris serves as President & CEO of Smiths Medical, a £836M ($1.2B) division of Smiths Group, plc, that manufacturers specialty medical devices for the world’s healthcare markets. He also serves as a member of Smiths Group’s Executive Committee. Chris joined Smiths Medical in December 2015, to lead the company's Global Operations function. He brings with him to Smiths Medical more than 25 years of experience with a track record of driving results in both business and operations. Over his career Chris has delivered outstanding financial performance for the functions and businesses he’s led by focusing on customers and their requirements; driving operational excellence, quality and cost; and by coaching and developing people.

    Chris joined Smiths Medical from 3M Corporation where he most recently served as Senior Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain. Prior to that, Chris held the role of Executive Vice President of 3M’s Industrial Business Group, in addition to several senior leadership roles with 3M as a division general manager and operations leader during his 28 year career with the company.

    Chris holds a Bachelor of Science, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, from Sheffield Hallam University​.

  • Carl Stamp

    Carl Stamp

    Vice President, Global Marketing

    Carl Stamp joined Smiths Medical in April 2015.  Prior to Smiths, he held numerous executive level positions at Medtronic during a twelve-year tenure, including leadership roles in Marketing, Operations, R&D, and General Management.  Prior to Medtronic, Carl spent over fifteen years with Wright Medical Technology in R&D, Sales Management, Marketing, and Business Development roles.   As the VP of Marketing, he led the worldwide marketing efforts for all product segments, including large joint reconstruction, upper and lower extremities, and biologics, culminating in the company’s IPO in 2001. 

    Carl’s deep medical device industry experience and diverse functional knowledge provides exceptional foundation for leading the company’s product portfolio, as well as building alignment across all functional areas. 

     

    Carl hold a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa.

  • Jeff Brown

    Jeffrey Brown 

    Vice President, Global Sales

    Jeff leads the global Sales function for Smiths Medical. He has more than 35 years of successful global experience leading, developing and motivating highly effective executive management teams, developing innovative marketing and sales strategies as well as building strong customer partnerships. He has guided organizations through major change initiatives such as mergers, acquisitions and ERP implementations.

    Jeff joined Smiths Medical in 2012, as Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Americas, and has been in his current role since 2015.

    Prior to Smiths Medical, Jeff held progressively more senior sales & marketing roles within Teleflex and Hudson Respiratory Care, where he grew sales revenues year over year, launched businesses into new markets and maximized operating profits on a global scale.

    Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

  • Mark McDonald

    Mark McDonald

    Vice President Global Operations

    Mark leads the Global Operations function for Smiths Medical where he and his team are focused on efficiently delivering quality, life-saving products to customers and their patients around the globe every day. Mark is responsible for Advanced Manufacturing Engineering; Environmental Health & Safety, Security and Facilities; Distribution and Logistics; Manufacturing Operations; Global Strategic Sourcing; and Supply Chain. He joined Smiths Medical in December 2014, as Vice President, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

    Prior to joining Smiths Medical, Mark held various international leadership roles at Boston Scientific driving innovation and financial performance improvements in Operations, Product Development and Program Management. His passion for continuous improvement and development through 13 years with the company drove transformational programs including white space R&D, acquisition integration, green field site development, and multiple product launches in the cardiovascular and peripheral intervention businesses.

    Mark holds Bachelor degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics from Trinity College Dublin.

  • Michael Blum

    Michael Blum 

    Acting General Counsel

    Michael Blum was appointed Acting General Counsel of Smiths Medical effective as of August 1, 2016, leading the global legal services function for Smiths Medical. His responsibilities include oversight of commercial contracting activities, litigation and dispute management, intellectual property management, the management of the property portfolio and other areas of risk management. Michael’s team also is responsible for managing key compliance programs. He joined Smiths Medical in 2013 as its Associate General Counsel, Americas.

    Prior to joining Smiths Medical, Michael served in three prior in-house positions: Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Compliance Officer of Vascular Solutions, Inc., Intellectual Property Counsel to Supervalu Inc., and Vice President and Divisional General Counsel of Alpharma, Inc. He began his legal career practicing intellectual property law for Pennie & Edmonds and later for Fross, Zelnick, Lehrman & Zissu, both in New York City.

    Michael graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in History from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also earned his J.D. He is a member of the Minnesota and New York Bars.

  • Steve Rempe

    Stephen Rempe

    Vice President, Global Human Resources

    Stephen joined Smiths Medical in 2017, as Vice President, Global Human Resources, where he is responsible for leading the global HR and Corporate Communications functions. Prior to joining Smiths Steve was at Boston Scientific for more than 12 years where he held several roles of increasing responsibility within Human Resources. Most recently, Stephen served as Vice President, Global Talent Management where he was a member of the HR Leadership Team and responsible for Talent Acquisition, Organization Development & Effectiveness, Talent Development, and Global Reporting and Analytics.

    In addition, Stephen serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for The Works, a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire the next generation of engineers, innovators and creative problem solvers.

    Along with Boston Scientific, Stephen previously held roles at Cummins, Inc. and Century Manufacturing.

    Stephen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and earned a Masters Certificate from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota with a specialization in Organization Development.

  • Ben Sommerness

    Ben Sommerness

    Vice President, Global Strategy and Transformation

    Ben Sommerness leads the Global Strategy and Transformation function for Smiths Medical. His background includes extensive strategy, marketing, business development and change management experience. He joined the organization in 2010.

    Prior to Smiths Medical, Ben was a Principal at the Boston Consulting Group (Chicago, London and Minneapolis offices), where he led strategic consulting engagements to identify and implement value creation opportunities for many Fortune 500 companies. Following BCG, he was the President of Talmadge Consulting, an independent management consulting company.

    Ben served in the U.S. Army for six years in U.S. and abroad, achieving the rank of Captain.  Following various line unit leadership roles, Ben managed the Army Medical Department’s strategic infrastructure development program. 

    Ben holds a BE in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy, and received an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

  • Michael Armstrong

    Michael Armstrong

    Vice President, Global Regulatory Affairs & Quality Assurance

    Michael Armstrong leads Smiths Medical’s Global Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance (RAQA) function. His focus is to drive transformation through increased accountability, improved productivity and accelerated execution while maintaining robust product and quality systems performance. He joined the organization in September 2015. Michael has extensive experience within the medical device industry in a wide variety of fields such as cardiac, vascular, neurological and general surgery, interventional cardiology, cardiac rhythm management, neuromodulation, and orthopaedics.   

    Prior to Smiths, Michael served as Vice President of Global Quality, at Greatbatch, Inc. where he built a robust quality infrastructure that successfully transformed independent facilities into an integrated group of quality systems. He additionally deployed a business process harmonization strategy to improve business performance, increase productivity and align core business processes across multinational locations. Prior to Greatbach, Michael spent a number of years at Medtronic's Cardiovascular and Spine divisions in progressively more senior Quality roles. While at Medtronic Cardiovascular, Michael was responsible for all aspects of Quality development activities from initial research and development through product launch, including pharmaceutical testing requirements, compliance, and initial product failure investigation. Earlier in his career Michael held various leadership roles in Quality at Northstar Neuroscience and Guidant Cardiac and Vascular Surgery.

    Michael holds a Master of Bioengineering from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

  • Brett Landrum

    CTO and Vice President, R&D

    Brett serves as Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of R&D. Brett and his team are dedicated to developing and delivering innovative products and solutions that improve the lives of patients and providers around the world.

    Brett joined Smiths Medical in 2015 as Director of Software Engineering leading the organization’s digital transformation efforts. Prior to joining Smiths Medical, Brett served as Director of Engineering for Medtronic leading the development and launch of Medtronic’s wireless remote patient ECG monitoring system. Brett has held a variety of additional leadership roles across the medical device, automotive, telecommunications and transportation industries. 

    He brings with him 20 years of experience, including an intimate knowledge of the product development lifecycle and a rich history of driving new product introductions. Brett has multiple U.S. and international patents.

    Brett holds a B.S. in Math and Information Systems from Indiana University Kokomo, an M.S. in Software Engineering from the University of St. Thomas and an M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas.

  • George Montague

    George Montague

    CFO & Vice President, Global Finance

    George Montague joined Smiths Medical in September 2015, and serves as the company’s CFO and VP of Finance. Prior to Smiths he was Senior Vice President, Sales and Service Finance for Cisco Systems where he provided financial leadership and oversaw Finance functions for the global sales organization, Services business and captive-finance company. Prior to Cisco, George spent 11 years with Medtronic, where he served in different management roles of increasing responsibility, including as group CFO directing finance, strategy and business development activities of a global operating group that included Medtronic’s Spine, Neuromodulation, Diabetes, Surgical Technologies and Kanghui business units.

    Earlier in his career George spent time building foundational expertise in strategic and financial planning, business development, IT systems analysis, treasury, audit, tax, and controllership with Hughes Electronics, Black & Decker, Apple and KPMG in progressively senior roles.

    George received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of California at Berkeley, and a master of business administration from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a chartered financial analyst and certified public accountant.

  • Jeff Wagaman

    Executive CIO and Vice President Enterprise Solutions

    Jeff joined Smiths Medical in September 2015, and leads the business information systems (BIS) team for the organization. Jeff has oversight of the BIS project management office (PMO), project managers, and strategic solutions teams. Jeff is also responsible for evolving and leading the digital and innovation agendas for the BIS team.

    Prior to Smiths Jeff was with 3M where served as director of the enterprise resource planning center of excellence with responsibility over a multi-year IT business transformation program. Prior to 3M Jeff was the Vice President of IT for the Select Comfort Corporation, and spent his early career at companies including: IBM, Maytag Corporation, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and GE.

    Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Ball State University, Indiana.
