Humidification: It’s Relative
Course Description
Optimal humidification, what is it? Many clinicians consider humidification to be providing a specific set temperature at the patient Y-piece. Some believe that it is using a particular heat moisture exchanger.
This program will provide clinicians with a fundamental overview of humidification during invasive and noninvasive ventilation; an understanding of the devices available; and how, as patient caregivers, we can assess patients and determine their humidification needs.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the basic physiology associated with heat and humidification
- Describe the differences between active and passive humidification
- Identify various characteristics of a heat moisture exchanger (HME)
- Understand humidification during noninvasive ventilation (NIV)
