Smiths Medical Environment, Health and Safety Policy

Smiths Group plc is committed to achieving excellent environment, health and safety performance supported by effective management systems.

The Chief Executive has overall responsibility for environment, health and safety matters in the Group and the Group Human Resources Director is responsible for its effective administration and implementation. Strategic direction and performance monitoring is undertaken by the Environment, Health and Safety Steering Committee which has representation from all Smiths divisions.

The most senior director for each business unit is responsible for environment, health and safety matters within their business and each employee is expected to understand, adhere to and promote this policy. We conduct our business in accordance with the following key environment, health and safety principles:

• We are committed to meeting or exceeding all relevant legislative, regulatory and other requirements to which we are subject and will monitor our performance through periodic assessment.
  
• We aim continually to improve our environment, health and safety performance, including prevention of pollution and hazard reduction
  
• We will establish clearly defined objectives and targets.
  
• We will regularly assess the environment, health and safety impacts and interactions of all business activities, products and services.
  
• We will promote the efficient use of energy and other resources while striving to eliminate waste and emissions and to minimise risk to human health and the environment.
  
• We will conduct environment, health and safety impact assessments during the design of our products.
  
• We will ensure that environment, health and safety issues are considered during any acquisition or divestiture process.
  
• We will communicate with all persons working for or on behalf of the Group and other appropriate stakeholders regarding the environment, health and safety aspects and objectives of our operations and will seek to engage them in our commitment to continual improvement.
