Portex® Silicone Laryngeal Mask

Smiths Medical is pleased to announce the launch of  the New single use Portex® Laryngeal Mask as part of the airway portfolio.

The new Portex® Silicone Laryngeal mask provides the performance of silicone with the benefits of single use. The existing Portex® PVC Laryngeal Mask (PSSLM) will be sold as a cost effective alternative to the new Silicone Laryngeal Mask.

Epiglottis Bars
We have incorporated epiglottis bars into our new Silicone Laryngeal Mask. Research suggests that having epiglottis bars as opposed to one large opening, eliminates the risk of the epiglottis getting stuck.

Single Use
The need to reduce hospital acquired infections is at the forefront of every hospital protocol today. The benefits of using single-use products as opposed to re-usable products is widely accepted for better infection control. Research has shown that even thoroughly cleaned re-usable airway devices still contain residual protein deposits, which have the potential  for cross-patient contamination. Using the new single Silicone Laryngeal Mask from Portex® avoids the risk.

Silicone Material
The new single use laryngeal mask from Portex® is made from medical grade Silicone as this is generally considered the material of choice for its superior ability to conform to the patients anatomy.

Easy to Insert
The new single use Portex® Laryngeal Mask has been designed to allow quick and easy insertion for when time is critical.

Feel of a re-usable
Clinicians that we spoke to were keen to use a single use product, but wanted it to feel like the product they were used to. The new single use Portex® Silicone Laryngeal Mask has that familiar feeling, in fact, they will find it hard to believe that it is single use!

One Piece Design
Unlike many laryngeal masks on the market, the new Portex® Silicone Laryngeal Mask is a one piece design. This means there is no join between tube and the cuff with the objective or minimises trauma on insertion.
