Nurse Call Feature
Thursday, 6 Nov, 2008

Smiths Medical announced that its Capnocheck® Plus and Capnocheck® Sleep capnographs now feature a remote alarm capability.
Also known as Nurse Call, this function allows the capnographs to interface with a hospital’s Nurse Call system, sending a signal to the nurses’ station when a parameter’s alarm limits are violated.
The interface between the capnograph and the nurse call system is established with a special cable connecting the two.
The Remote Alarm function is especially valuable in monitoring unattended patients, particularly patients receiving pain medication through a PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesia) pump. Respiratory depression is an example of particular concern when administering narcotic analgesia via this method. The Remote Alarm feature is a valuable tool in assuring patient safety in environments where the PCA modality is used.
