A team from Smiths Medical’s International division enjoyed a fruitful first day at the World Congress of Anaesthesiologists (WCA) in Cape Town, South Africa, the world’s largest event for anaesthesia professionals and medical manufacturers.

WCA provided Smiths Medical with the first opportunity to promote two new products – the CADD Solis ambulatory pump system (which has just been cleared launch by the FDA), and the Suction Above the Cuff ET tube (SACETT - due for launch later this year).

CADD Solis will include several unique features such as comprehensive IT connectivity to link to any hospital information infrastructure, and a huge drug library which will ensure the safest standards of medication delivery. The pump itself has revolutionary design features and is smaller than most other pumps of its kind.

SACETT, is designed to reduce Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, a condition which affects many patients who need artificial breathing support.

Both new products generated a huge amount of interest among attendees, and sales leads from product demonstrations of these and other products totalled 100 at the end of the first day.

Other Smiths Medical products on show at WCA include the Suction Pro72 (suction catheter), Omnifuse PCA (a syringe pump for pain management) and CADD-Legacy PCA (a hand-held medication delivery device), Paediatric warming blankets (new), Equator and Hotline temperature warming devices, Pneupac VR1 Airmix (new mobile resuscitator), and safety PIVC catheters.

Smiths Medical International Managing Director, Martin Jamieson, said: "WCA continues to be the premier occasion around the world for clinicians and manufacturers in this market, and I am delighted we have been able to cause such a stir this year. The two new products we have demonstrated have received a fantastic response and we are confident we will be able to improve our customers’ clinical procedures, and patient outcomes with CADD Solis and SACETT."

"Our South Africa team has contributed greatly to the product demonstrations and our overall presence at the event, helping us illustrate how Smiths Medical’s products make the world healthier and safer."
