The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the National Collaborating Center for Nursing and Supportive Care (NCC NSC) have issued guidance to the NHS in England and Wales on preventing hypothermia in patients before , during and up to 24 hours after ‘During surgery’ (from when anaesthetic is first given through to patient transfer to the recovery area)
- Patients should not be given an anaesthetic until their temperature is 36.0C or above (unless this is not possible because they need to be operated on urgently)
- Intravenous fluids (500ml or more) and blood products should be warmed to 37C using a fluid warming device.

The Hotline® Blood and Fluid Warmer is the best performing machine at providing NICE recommended levels of fluid warming at below 2000ml/hr
Hotline® Warmer – Number 1 in Performance
91% of all surgical procedures take place between 50 and 2000ml/hr*, Studies* prove that routine flow rates, the Hotline® Blood and Fluid Warmers, in maintaining normothermic temperature. All are warm source, but only the Hotline® Warmer eliminates patient line cool down.
By keeping patients warm, they are less likely to suffer post-operative shivering, delayed wound healing, delayed recovery from anaesthesia, and cardiac instability
