In 1984, I joined Concord Laboratories, which was then a Smiths Industries Company, as a sales trainer. Having a background in education and teaching, I was very excited to set up a formal education and training program for their small sales team. That experience was the first of many that led to my becoming global marketing director for the safety devices product line at Smiths Medical.

While in this role, I’ve experienced many rewards. We help improve clinician safety by reducing needle sticks through our needle-safety devices. With the innovative products we’ve developed and acquired, we’re making a difference in improving clinical and patient outcomes.

My dedication isn’t the only thing that’s allowed me to be successful, though. As a high school sports official, I’ve learned to listen, consider other viewpoints and respect others, even when they disagree. By applying those skills to my professional life, I’ve been able to learn a lot about this business and to grow as an individual. And I get recognized for it.
