Important Announcement Regarding the Deltec Cozmo^® Insulin Pump

Smiths Medical announced today that it will discontinue manufacturing the Deltec Cozmo^® insulin pump for direct sale through a deliberately planned and managed exit from this line of business. This decision applies to both prospective new users and to current users who may wish to replace their pump at the end of their current warranty periods. Let me assure you that we remain committed to excellent customer service and that we will provide the ongoing support that our existing pump users have come to expect between now and the end of their current warranty. The Deltec Cozmo^® insulin pump remains an excellent choice in the management of diabetes. Smiths Medical will continue to support users of our insulin pump, and they can be confident that they will continue to receive customer and clinical support for the remainder of the warranty of their pump, including full warranty service and continued availability of cartridges and infusion sets. Deltec Cozmo^® pump users should continue to call our telephone customer support on 1- 800-826-9703 for any assistance they require with their pumps.

There are two key differences for current Deltec Cozmo^® pump users arising from today's announcement. First, when a Deltec Cozmo^® insulin pump approaches the end of its warranty period and it is time to decide on a replacement, your patient will need your advice and support to choose a pump that is available from one of the other manufacturers. Second, over the next couple of months, we will work with your patients as needed to transfer purchases of cartridges and infusion sets to one of the many national and regional distributors that stock these items. A list of distributors can be found on the following page and they all stock supplies of Deltec Cozmo^® insulin pump cartridges as well as the Cleo^® and Comfort^® infusion sets.

If any of your patients who are currently being processed for a delivery of a new Deltec Cozmo^® insulin pump now wish to move to a pump from one of the other manufacturers, please ask your patients to let us know their decision by 30th April 2009 and we will cancel their order.
