Pulse Oximetry and Capnography Technology

Smiths Medical OEM provides pulse oximetry and capnography technologies in a variety of component formats under the BCI® brand. A featured technology for Smiths Medical OEM is our Digital Micro Power Oximeter Board for integrating SpO2, pulse rate, pulse amplitude index and plethysmogram waveform into any host. The Smiths Medical BCI® design combines small size, low power and superior performance with our industry leading motion tolerant/low perfusion technology.

Serial Autocorrelation Digital Oximetry Technology

The BCI® digital micro power oximeter board incorporates the BCI® patented Serial Autocorrelation Technology which utilizes blood pulse detection method using autocorreclation. The technology analyzes a digitized signal, in real time, and compares it with previous pulse data. If similar characteristics to previous data are recognized, the device confirms a valid pulse. In essence, an individual's pulse data is retained and used as a template to accept or reject future pulse signals. Patented technology, digital signal processing and a greatly improved signal to noise ration, combine to reduce alarms caused by artifact, while providing improved performance.

The BCI ® digital micro power oximetry board with serial autocorrelation is the identical board used in the newly released Smiths Medical Spectro2 20 & 30 Oximeters.
